What is SQL?
SQL (also called Structured Query Language): Structured Query Language: the standard declarative language for defining, querying and changing data in relational databases. You describe the result you want, and the database engine decides how to compute it. Dialects differ slightly between products, but the core is shared.
SQL: an example
SELECT name FROM customers WHERE city = 'Pune'; asks for the names of customers in Pune without saying how to search.
