AI engineering glossary · Prompt context engineering
What is prompt?
Prompt: The full input text given to a language model to make it produce an output. It can hold instructions, background facts, examples and the user's question. Because the model only sees what is in this input, the wording and content of it largely decide how good the answer is.
Prompt: an example
A prompt for a Zomato support bot might be: 'You are a polite agent. Customer message: My biryani arrived cold. Draft a reply in two sentences.'
