What is basis?
Basis: A minimal set of linearly independent vectors that spans a whole space, so every vector in the space can be written in exactly one way as a combination of them. Choosing a basis is choosing a coordinate system.
Basis: an example
[1, 1] and [1, -1] form a basis of the 2-D plane; the vector [3, 1] equals 2*[1, 1] + 1*[1, -1].
