What is equal-width binning?
Equal-width binning: Discretising a numeric feature into bins that all span the same range of values, computed as (max - min) / number of bins. It is simple, but skewed data leave some bins crowded and others nearly empty.
Equal-width binning: an example
Salaries from 0 to 10,00,000 in 5 bins give bands of Rs 2,00,000 each, though most people fall into the first band.
