What is equal-frequency binning?
Equal-frequency binning (also called Quantile binning): Discretising a numeric feature so each bin holds roughly the same number of observations, using quantiles as bin edges. It handles skewed data better than equal-width bins, but bin widths can vary widely.
Equal-frequency binning: an example
Splitting 1,000 customers into quartile bins by spending puts about 250 customers in each band, even if the top band spans a huge range.
