What is filter method?
Filter method: A feature selection approach that scores each feature with a statistic, such as correlation, chi-square or mutual information, independent of any model, and keeps the top scorers. It is fast and scalable, but ignores feature interactions.
Filter method: an example
You compute the correlation of each of 300 columns with the target and keep the 40 with the highest absolute correlation.
