What is data masking?
Data masking: Hiding real sensitive values by replacing them with realistic but fake or scrambled ones, so data can be used for testing or analysis without exposing individuals. Unlike deletion, it keeps the format of the data intact.
Data masking: an example
A test database replaces real customer names and account numbers with generated ones of the same format.
