What is access control?
Access control (also called authorisation): Rules and mechanisms that decide who or what may view or change each resource. In retrieval systems it means the search only returns documents the asking user is allowed to see, enforced outside the model rather than trusting the model to hold back.
Access control: an example
A staff assistant filters retrieved HR documents by the asking employee's role before the model ever sees them.
