What is citation checking?
Citation checking (also called citation verification): Verifying that the sources an answer cites exist and truly support the statements attached to them. It guards against fabricated references and against real sources that say something different, and can be automated by fetching the source and having a judge compare.
Citation checking: an example
A research assistant cites 'Report, p. 14'; a checker opens page 14 and confirms the quoted figure appears there.
