What is windowing?
Windowing (also called Window function in streaming): Grouping an endless stream of events into finite chunks, by time or count, so aggregates can be computed. Common types are tumbling (fixed, non-overlapping), sliding (overlapping) and session windows (gaps of inactivity).
Windowing: an example
A tumbling one-minute window counts orders per minute, while a 10-minute sliding window updated every minute smooths the trend.
