What is SIMD (single instruction multiple data)?
Single instruction multiple data (also called SIMD, Vector instructions): A form of parallelism in which one instruction is applied to several data values at the same time, using wide registers. It accelerates numeric work such as image and array processing and is the idea behind vectorised libraries.
Single instruction multiple data: an example
One SIMD instruction can add eight pairs of 32-bit numbers simultaneously.
