What is serialization?
Serialization (also called Deserialization, Marshalling): Converting an in-memory object into a sequence of bytes or text that can be stored or transmitted, so it can be rebuilt later. Formats such as JSON and pickle do this, and the reverse step is called deserialization.
Serialization: an example
Saving a Python dictionary to a JSON file is serialization, and reading it back into a dictionary is deserialization.
