What is pipe?
Pipe (also called Pipeline): A shell feature, written as a vertical bar, that connects the output of one command directly to the input of the next. It lets small single-purpose tools be combined into powerful one-line workflows without temporary files.
Pipe: an example
cat access.log | grep 404 | wc -l counts how many log lines contain 404.
