What is agglomerative clustering?
Agglomerative clustering: The bottom-up form of hierarchical grouping. It starts with each point as its own cluster and repeatedly merges the two closest clusters until one remains or a target count is reached.
Agglomerative clustering: an example
With 6 points, 5 merge steps are needed to reach a single cluster.
