What is memory consolidation?
Memory consolidation: Merging, summarising or cleaning stored memories over time so they stay accurate and compact, for example combining duplicates or replacing an old fact with a newer one. It keeps long-term memory from growing stale and contradictory.
Memory consolidation: an example
Two notes, 'lives in Pune' and 'moved to Bengaluru in March', are merged into one current fact: 'lives in Bengaluru'.
