What is r-squared?
R-squared (also called Coefficient of determination): The proportion of variation in the outcome that a regression model accounts for, between 0 and 1, computed as 1 - (residual sum of squares / total sum of squares). It never falls when predictors are added, even useless ones.
R-squared: an example
An R-squared of 0.72 means the model accounts for 72 percent of the variation in house prices in the data.
