What is stemming?
Stemming: Cutting words down to a crude root by stripping endings using fixed rules, so 'running', 'runs' and 'runner' map to similar stems. It reduces vocabulary size quickly but may produce non-words.
Stemming: an example
The Porter stemmer reduces 'studies' and 'studying' to 'studi'.
