What is output layer?
Output layer: The final layer of a network, whose values are the prediction. Its size and activation match the task: one linear unit for a regression value, a sigmoid unit for a yes/no probability, or one softmax unit per class for multi-class problems.
Output layer: an example
A network sorting support tickets into 5 categories ends with 5 output neurons followed by softmax.
