What is hive?
Hive (also called Apache Hive): A data warehouse layer over Hadoop that lets users query files in a distributed file system using SQL-like statements. Its metastore of table definitions is reused by many other engines.
Hive: an example
A Hive table defined over ORC files in HDFS is queried with SQL, and Spark reads the same table through the metastore.
