What is trajectory evaluation?
Trajectory evaluation: Judging the whole sequence of steps an agent took, not just its final answer, for example whether it chose the right tools, avoided wasted calls and followed the rules. It catches agents that reach the right answer for the wrong reasons.
Trajectory evaluation: an example
Two agents both answer correctly, but one used 3 tool calls and the other 14 with three repeated searches; trajectory scoring separates them.
