What is policy improvement?
Policy improvement: The step of making a decision rule better by switching, in each situation, to the choice with the highest action value under the current estimates. The policy improvement theorem guarantees the new rule is at least as good as the old one.
Policy improvement: an example
If under the old rule Q(s, left) = 3 and Q(s, right) = 5, the improved rule picks right in s.
