What is ANN (artificial neural network)?
Artificial neural network (also called Neural network, ANN): A model made of many small numeric units arranged in layers, where each unit takes weighted inputs, adds them up and passes the result through a simple function. Connection strengths are learned from data, so the network can approximate very complicated input-to-output mappings without hand-written rules.
Artificial neural network: an example
A network with 784 inputs (a 28x28 pixel image), one hidden layer of 128 units and 10 outputs can learn to read handwritten digits.
